Maciej Balajewicz, a third year doctoral student in mechanical engineering, won a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) post-graduate fellowship. The fellowship will support his research project titled "Reduced-order modeling of turbulent fluid flows." Maciej, working with his adviser Professor Earl Dowell, is developing stable and efficient reduced-order models of complex turbulent flows for the purpose of bifurcation analysis and controller design. Our current efforts focus on prototyping these models on simple prototypical fluid flow configurations.
